Music / concept

“Mr. Peckins is among the most active recitalists in New England.”
— The Enterprise

In every recital program, Peckins draws on a traditional classical repertoire studied in Vienna and performed internationally (on tour in Japan, Europe, and North America), and also seeks out new and diverse works by contemporary composers, including recently giving the United States premier of Hosokawa’s Lied IV. Peckins firmly believes that programming authentic, diverse, and fresh repertoire, alongside the traditional warhorses of the past, is necessary in order to keep classical music relevant today.

The recital is the purest expression of a musician’s soul.  From the most passionate and expressive sonatas, to dazzlingly virtuosic showpieces, to intimate and lyrical salon pieces written for simple pleasure – these programs present a wide range of experiences for listeners, and argue for the relevancy of the recital format in our modern life.

Speaking from the Stage

“A gift for capturing audiences’ attention...”

Joshua Peckins engages modern audiences by speaking from the stage, inviting them into a richer and more personal experience of hearing the performance. The goal is never just to list dry historical facts, but rather to connect with the audience, communicate actively about the power, purpose, and value of live classical music, and to celebrate the recital format and its repertoire.

Watch the video below to hear Peckins engaging the audience with a story about Tartini’s “Didone Abbandonata” at a recent recital in Cambridge, MA:
