This “Music Speaks” program invites listeners on an exciting tour of musical musical styles, cultures, and time periods, ranging from a majestic Bach fugue and Paganini’s legendary 24th Caprice of almost unsurpassed virtuosity, to Montgomery’s exciting new Rhapsody No 2 and Hosokawa’s “new form of Japanese spiritual culture and music” (quote from Hosokawa’s bio). In addition to performing these wonderful pieces, violinist Joshua Peckins will introduce the composers and their music with spoken word, welcoming the audience into a rich experience of the music.
As an encore to last season’s performances and recording release of Jessie Montgomery’s Rhapsody No 1, this season includes her brand new “Rhapsody No 2,” the second rhapsody in her forthcoming set of six! Toshio Hosokawa, an incredibly exciting living composer, is regularly played by major orchestras in Europe. Discover his “Extasas,” a haunting and moving work for solo violin. Paganini’s 24th Caprice almost needs no introduction, legendary in its virtuosity and expressive force.
